Call for papers: 'Digital technologies and educational integrity' A special issue of the online refereed journal IJEI
Edited by Chris Moore and Ruth Walker University of Wollongong This special issue of the International Journal for Educational Integrity (IJEI) seeks articles that address the impact of digital technologies on educational integrity. Many different terms have emerged in an attempt to capture the shifting terrain of media use and users in various networked environments: 'social', 'participatory', 'user-generated' or simply 'new' media. Common to the online interactive spaces of Web2.0 is the challenge of technologies and practices that are capable of changing the way we teach, learn, and share knowledge. How can we best engage and support students and colleagues coming to terms with the dynamics of these technologies and the development of new literacies? http://www.unisa.edu.au/EducationalIntegrity/Journal_submission_guidelines.htm |

| An exhibition on the counter-globalization movement, January 27 to March 20, 2010, Canada |

A WORLD WHERE MANY WORLDS FIT An exhibition on the counter-globalization movement
Foreman Art Gallery of Bishop's University Sherbrooke, Canada January 27 to March 20, 2010 http://www.ubishops.ca/foreman/english/exhibitions/2009-2010/worlds/index.html
>Artists: ATSA (Canada), Zanny Begg (Australia), >Etcétera (Argentina), Petra Gerschner (Germany), >John Jordan (England), Oliver Ressler (Austria), >®TMark (United States), Gregory Sholette (United >States), Nuria Vila + Marcelo Expósito (Spain), >Dmitry Vilensky (Russia)
Curated by Oliver Ressler The trope "A World Where Many Worlds Fit" goes back to the Subcomandante Marcos, when talking about the Zapatistas' struggles in the Lacandonian Rainforest in Mexico. Since their uprising in 1994 the Zapatistas have been fighting for a less-hierarchic autonomous world where more options exist for involvement in democratic decision-making processes. They fight against an existing world, which calls itself "democratic", but should rather be seen as a form of sophisticated oligarchy that functions in favor of the interests of the political and economic elite. While the Mexican army and paramilitary mercenaries are brutally defending this exclusive world of the elite in Chiapas, in the part of the world where I am coming from (Austria/Europe) the stick that punishes people who envision another world is usually not so visible. But this can change suddenly in times when those in power assemble in the framework of the summits of World Bank, International Monetary Fund, World Trade Organization, World Economic Forum or the G8. Though the decisions made by the politicians and business leaders at these meetings affect the lives of all people in the world, the negotiations take place hidden from the public gaze behind fences and ten-thousands of riot-police, becoming, therefore, a symbol for the undemocratic and illegitimate formation of global capitalism. |

| International Festival for Sustainable Immobility. March 18 - 20, 2010 |

ElectroSmog International Festival for Sustainable Immobility Amsterdam / New York / Madrid / Helsinki / Riga / London / Banff / New Zealand / Munich / & on-lIne
March 18 - 20, 2010 www.electrosmogfestival.net
About the Festival: ElectroSmog is a new festival that explores the concept 'Sustainable Immobility' in theory and practice. Sustainable Immobility is first of all a critique of the growing global crisis of mobility. Current forms of hyper-mobility of people and products in travel and transport are ecologically increasingly unsustainable. The will to slow down, however, seems thoroughly absent. The economic crisis may have temporarily slowed matters down, long term projections still point towards exponential growth of worldwide mobility and exploding energy needs. Alternatives for the current state of hyper-mobility need to be designed urgently. The exploration of Sustainable Immobility is a quest for a lifestyle less determined by speed and constant mobility. A lifestyle that celebrates stronger links to local cultures, while at the same time deepening our connections to others across any geographical divide by means of new communication technologies, instead of physical travel. |

| Cybernetics: Art, Design, Mathematics. DEADLINE 29 MARCH 2010 |

*Cybernetics: Art, Design, Mathematics*
*http://www.asc-cybernetics.org/2010/*
*A Meta-Disciplinary Conversation.* **
* DEADLINE 29 MARCH 2010*
How would you like to shape and take part in a conference where the main activity is to explore by listening, talking and questioning (conversing) rather than listen to, and give, prepared lectures; and where the aim is to move forward, taking next steps as a result of these conversations, rather than reporting on the already discovered? In other words, go to a conference where the intention is to move forward by conferring.
That is the central feature of our conference—a conference of conversation, of listening, talking, and questioning. Of open minds, and delight in the un-thought-of.
And what better way to make an interesting conversation than to bring together people whose backgrounds and interests are different, yet who want to learn by listening to others, to find what can be shared? In other words, to transcend boundaries.
So we bring together practitioners and theorists who wish to explore across boundaries, from 4 different subjects. But not just any 4 subjects. Subjects that already hold conversations together in pairs: cybernetics; art; design; mathematics. With all 4 together, we have a wider conversation, greater variety.
Our 4 subjects have a special quality in common. Each is used to comment, throw light on and inform other subjects. Perhaps mathematics is the most obvious case: a subject in its own right that is used everywhere to illuminate (and make operable) other subjects. But also a subject that can comment on itself: a subject which is a meta-subject, even to itself.
Our conference is surrounded by 3 other, related events. Look on the web site, chose what you like, and come and join us at the Experimental Media Performance Arts Centre at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, from the evening of July 30 to late afternoon on August 2, with surrounding events on July 29 and 30, and August 3 to 5. http://www.asc-cybernetics.org/2010/ |

| WATER from SPACE: Societal, Educational and Cultural aspects |
REMINDER CALL FOR PAPERS : deadline March 5th 2010
WATER from SPACE: Societal, Educational and Cultural aspects
International Astronautical Congress 27th September – 1st October 2010, Prague
A joint session (E1.6.-E5.4) between the IAF Space Education and Outreach Committee and the IAA Commission VI and co-sponsored by ITACCUS on the topic "Water from Space: Societal, Educational and Cultural aspects" will be hold during the International Astronautical Congress that will take place in Prague in 2010 Inter-disciplinary in nature, it will explore the societal and cultural contexts of water as they are related to space.
Nearly 71% of the Earth constitutes water. Recently water has been found on other celestial bodies (Moon, Mars). Yet, the world faces serious issues related to water: not only its general availability and management, but also in the context of global warming as well as in the pollution of rivers, lakes and oceans. http://www.iafastro.net/ |
